A RESOLUTION relating to the Chinatown/International District; amending Resolution 31754, incorporating Filipino Town, and recognizing the important history and contributions of Filipino-Americans to the City of Seattle.

WHEREAS, the Seattle City Council adopted Resolution 31754 on July 31, 2017, recognizing the significant work of the Chinatown/International District community to support and implement the vision of a unique Asian-American neighborhood with thriving minority-owned businesses, cultural institutions, diverse and affordable housing, safe and dynamic public spaces, and an accessible neighborhood for all transportation modes; and
WHEREAS, Resolution 31754 is a companion resolution to Ordinance 125371, implementing Mandatory Housing Affordability requirements in the Chinatown/International District, and reconfirms the City's commitment to work with the Chinatown/International District community to address entrenched issues that have plagued the neighborhood for several decades; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle City Council received public testimony from leaders of the Filipino community at Full Council on August 7, 2017, sharing concerns of not including "Manilatown" or "Filipino Town" in Resolution 31754; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle City Council articulated to members of the Filipino community that it was acting in good faith to incorporate feedback in Resolution 31754; and
WHEREAS, the term "Manilatown" was used by Filipino-American "Uncle Bob" Santos, an Asian-Pacific Islander community leader known as the mayor of Seattle's Chinatown/International District, and many others to show their love for the Chinatown/International District; and
WHEREAS, the Filipino community is an important part of the inclusive and diverse Chinatown-International District neighborhood; and
