A RESOLUTION relating to the Equitable Development Implementation Plan and Equitable Development Financial Investment Strategy; voicing support for certain community-initiated projects contained in the Plan and identifying next steps for implementation of those projects.

WHEREAS, Race and Social Equity is one of the core value of Seattle 2035, Seattle's Comprehensive Plan for growth over the next 20 years; and
WHEREAS, in order to identify key steps in implementing that core value the City Council passed 2016 Statement of Legislative Intent 32-2-A-1 asking the Executive to prepare an equitable development implementation strategy for Seattle 2035; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Planning and Community Development and the Seattle Office for Civil Rights have worked closely with communities in the Central District, Chinatown/International District, and Rainier Valley to identify strategies to mitigate the impacts of growth on marginalized communities; and
WHEREAS, those communities have come together to identify specific projects that build on community assets to support jobs and economic development for marginalized community members; and
WHEREAS, implementing those projects can increase stability, cohesion, and affordability in communities that face a high risk of displacement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council seeks to endorse that work and to identify next steps to move those projects forward; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE THAT:
Section 1. The Equitable Development Implementation Plan contained in Clerk File 319789 and the Equitable Development Financial Investment Strategy contained in Clerk File 319828 identify the following six community-initiated equitable development projects as priorities for mitigating further displacement and increasing access to opportunity in the Central Area, the Chinatown/International District and South Seattle:
