A RESOLUTION relating to the Seattle Park District; establishing the Community Oversight Committee and setting its membership and terms of office; and ratifying and confirming certain prior acts.

WHEREAS, Ordinance 124467 authorized the submission to the voters of Seattle a proposition authorizing the formation of the Seattle Park District; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle Park District was approved by the voters on August 5, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 124468, relating to an interlocal agreement with the Seattle Park District, directed the establishment of a Community Oversight Committee to provide advice to the Mayor, City Council, and Superintendent of Parks and Recreation and provide oversight of projects, programs and services undertaken by the Seattle Parks District; and
WHEREAS, legislation is needed to formally authorize the establishment of this Committee and to set its membership and terms of office; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THE MAYOR CONCURRING, THAT:
Section 1.
A. The Community Oversight Committee for the Seattle Park District (Committee) is established. The Committee consists of 15 positions numbered 1 to 15. Positions 1 through 8 shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the City Council. Positions 1 through 4 shall be filled by members of the Board of Park Commissioners (Board). Positions 5 through 8 shall be filled by members considered for appointment based on recommendations from City commissions, including the Immigrant and Refugee Commission, the Commission for People with Disabilities, the Human Rights Commission, the Seattle Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Commission, and the Women's Commission.
