AN ORDINANCE relating to the Seattle Streetcar; authorizing execution of a new interlocal agreement with King County for operation and maintenance of the Seattle Streetcar system; and ratifying and confirming certain prior acts.

WHEREAS, under an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) between King County (County) and The City of Seattle (City) for Seattle Streetcar Operations and Maintenance dated August 20, 2007, and authorized by Ordinance 122424, the County has continuously operated and maintained the City's South Lake Union streetcar line; and
WHEREAS, in 2014, King County and the City entered into an amended and restated ILA, authorized by Ordinance 124478, to govern King County Metro Transit's operation and maintenance of a combined Seattle Streetcar system that included both the First Hill and South Lake Union streetcar lines; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 ILA will expire on December 31, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the parties believe it is in their mutual best interests and in the best interest of the public for the County to continue to operate and maintain the City Streetcar system, along with any future additions to the existing system; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Seattle Department of Transportation director or designee is authorized to execute, deliver, and perform an Interlocal Agreement between King County and The City of Seattle regarding the Seattle Streetcar system, substantially in the form of Attachment A to this ordinance.
Section 2. Any act consistent with the authority of this ordinance taken after its passage and prior to its effective date is ratified and confirmed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force 30 days after its approval by the Mayor, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten days after presentation, it shall take effect as provided by Seattle Municipal Code ...
