A RESOLUTION approving the design for improvements to Victor Steinbrueck Park funded through the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy.

WHEREAS, the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy identified the sum of $1.6 million to make improvements to public safety including but not limited to improving sight lines into the park, renovating seating, renovating the former children's play area, improving and expanding lighting, and upgrading the landscaping; and
WHEREAS, the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy also required City Council to determine whether the project is needed after it evaluated how well the removal of the automated public toilet, installation and operations of surveillance cameras, and increased policing addressed public safety issues in and around the park; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) provided the necessary evaluation related to the removal of the automated public toilet, installation and operations of surveillance cameras, and increased policing to address public safety issues in and around the park; and
WHEREAS, per Resolution 31558 adopted in 2014, the Council reviewed the evaluation and determined that Victor Steinbrueck Park remains in need of improvements as envisioned in the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy; and
WHEREAS, the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy also required DPR to conduct a project design process with broad public outreach and submit a project design to the City Council for review and approval prior to appropriation of levy funds for any construction; and
WHEREAS, DPR has conducted a project design process with broad public outreach and has submitted a project design to Council for review as required by the Parks and Greenspaces Levy that states that "[t]he Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct a project design process with broad public outreach and submit a project design to the Council for its review and approval prior to appropriation of levy ...
