A RESOLUTION providing an honorary designation of 2nd Avenue North from Harrison Street to Thomas Street as "Seattle Storm Way."

WHEREAS, the Seattle Storm is embedded in the fabric of our City, drawing consistent and passionate community support dating back to its inaugural season in 2000; and
WHEREAS, on September 12, 2018, the Seattle Storm won its third Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) title by sweeping the Washington Mystics; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle Storm previously won WNBA championships in 2004 and 2010, making history as the first all-female ownership group to win a professional sports title; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle Storm is home to iconic players including - but certainly not limited to - Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart, who are role models for all our young people determined to succeed in sports and beyond; and
WHEREAS, 2nd Avenue North between Harrison Street and Thomas Street is a vacated street on the campus of the Seattle Center that runs next to the Seattle Storm's home court; and
WHEREAS, this portion of 2nd Avenue North is designed to serve as a key route to the future redeveloped arena at Seattle Center; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THE MAYOR CONCURRING, THAT:
Section 1. 2nd Avenue North between Harrison Street and Thomas Street shall have an honorary designation as "Seattle Storm Way."
Section 2. The Council requests that the Seattle Department of Transportation manufacture, install, and maintain an honorary sign(s) at prominent and appropriation location(s), which shall reflect the "Seattle Storm Way" honorary designation.
Section 3. By this resolution, the Council does not intend to affect any existing or future signage that reflects the honorary designation of "Seattle Storm Way" with the exception of the signs described in Section 2 of this resolution.
