An ordinance relating to the Seattle Department of Transportation; authorizing the Director of the Department of Transportation to execute an interlocal agreement with Seattle Public Schools for bicycle and pedestrian safety education and training services.

Recitals:
The City of Seattle (City), through its Department of Transportation (SDOT) in partnership with Seattle Public Schools (SPS), intends to continue providing walk and bike safety education and training to the residents of Seattle as part of the City’s Vision Zero Initiative and Safe Routes to School program (Program).
The City has an interest in continuing to provide such service with SPS directly to residents who fall within the most vulnerable demographic, school age youth in elementary and middle school, in order to achieve the intended goal of the Program.
Support for students to walk and bike to school is a priority for the City, as it empowers young people to choose healthy and carbon-free ways of getting around their neighborhoods.
SDOT and SPS (the Parties) desire to enter into an interlocal agreement to continue administering the Program and to set out the terms governing the provision of SPS’s walk and bike safety education and training services for the Program.
The Parties are authorized to enter an interlocal agreement pursuant to chapter 39.34 RCW (Interlocal Cooperation Act). Therefore,
Be it ordained by The City of Seattle as follows:
Section 1. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Director is authorized to execute on behalf of The City of Seattle the Interlocal Agreement between City of Seattle and Seattle School District No. 1 for Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Education & Training Services substantially in the form attached to this ordinance as Attachment A.

This ordinance shall take effect as provided by Seattle Municipal Code Sections 1.04.020 and 1.04.070.
