Recitals:
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) uses the Plant Ecologist classification to support ecological restoration work on City-owned and managed lands.
Over time, the scope of this work expanded beyond vegetation management to include broader ecological restoration, natural resource stewardship, community engagement, and technical leadership responsibilities.
The Seattle Department of Human Resources reviewed the classification as requested by the SPR and determined that a Restoration Ecology classification series is needed to better reflect the current body of work, distinguish levels of responsibility, and support career progression. Therefore,
Be it ordained by The City of Seattle as follows:
Section 1. As recommended by the Seattle Department of Human Resources (SDHR) Director and requested by Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), the Plant Ecologist is to be retitled as a Restoration Ecologist. The rate of pay for the retitled Restoration Ecologist is unchanged.
Section 2. As recommended by the SDHR Director and requested by SPR, a new Senior Restoration Ecologist classification is established, and the corresponding rates of pay for the Senior Restoration Ecologist classification are as follows:
