AN ORDINANCE increasing the fee for marijuana business licenses; amending Section 6.500.080 of the Seattle Municipal Code.

WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City to regulate marijuana businesses in order to promote the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Seattle, including persons under the age of 21; and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of The City of Seattle to ensure that legal marijuana businesses are in compliance with state and City law; and
WHEREAS, The City of Seattle's marijuana regulatory license fees are not meeting the administrative and enforcement costs of the program and are significantly less than comparable jurisdictions; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 6.500.080 of the Seattle Municipal Code, enacted by Ordinance 124807, is amended as follows:
6.500.080 License fees
A. The following ((application)) annual license fees shall apply:
1. Marijuana Business License - Located in Seattle (($1,000)) $1,500
2. Marijuana Business License - Located outside Seattle (($500)) $750
3. Marijuana Business License - Reinspection, Reinstatement
Relocation of Physical Address Fee $250
B. ((Application)) License fees are non-refundable.
Section 2. Section 1 of this ordinance shall take effect on January 1, 2017.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force 30 days after its approval by the Mayor, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten days after presentation, it shall take effect as provided by Seattle Municipal Code Section 1.04.020.
