AN ORDINANCE relating to the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games; setting fees and charges for the Games and waiving all special event fees under Chapter 15.52 of the Seattle Municipal Code, and ratifying and confirming certain prior acts.

WHEREAS, Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Seattle will be hosting the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle July 1 through July 6, 2018, with the support of community leaders and corporate partners; and
WHEREAS, approximately 3,000 athletes will be competing in activities and sports at venues around the City, such as the University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle Center, Westlake Park, Safeco Field, and Lake Union Park; and
WHEREAS, tens of thousands of spectators and volunteers are anticipated to attend the games; and
WHEREAS, The City of Seattle is proud to host an event that showcases the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Seattle is committed to being a city of diversity and inclusion, and is honored to be a part of a celebration to break down barriers and promote inclusion; and
WHEREAS, without a special ordinance setting fees and charges, the Special Olympics USA Games would be subject to special event fees under Section 15.52.070 of the Seattle Municipal Code for administrative and staffing requirements, including staff from the Seattle Police Department; and
WHEREAS, other departments are waiving their permitting fees in support of the Special Olympic USA Games; and
WHEREAS, the Seattle Police Department has agreed to provide their services as necessary to staff the games; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
