A RESOLUTION providing an honorary designation of 22nd Avenue NW between NW 56th and NW 57th Streets as "Rob Mattson Way."

WHEREAS, Rob Mattson began his over 42-year career with The City of Seattle in 1971 and, in 1973, Mayor Uhlman appointed him as the director of the Ballard "Little City Hall," a new program that later became the Neighborhood Service Centers. Rob excelled in the position and worked to create a strong sense of community in the neighborhood and to connect neighbors with City services. He facilitated connections between community members and City staff, to ensure projects moved from ideas to completion. His work helped to shape the community that Ballard is today; and
WHEREAS, Rob coordinated multiple visits of King Gustav of Sweden and King Olaf of Norway; and
WHEREAS, Rob inspired those who knew him by his tenacity and curiosity, his determination and willingness to face a challenge, and his humor and wit. Rob was blind, and an outstanding leader in the community who acted as mentor to City staff and community members alike. He eagerly trained community members in the arts of civic engagement, intentionally creating an engaged community. Rob's legacy is defined by his extraordinary service to the community, and he was known as the "Mayor of Ballard"; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THE MAYOR CONCURRING, THAT:
Section 1. 22nd Avenue Northwest between NW 56th and NW 57th Streets shall have an honorary designation as "Rob Mattson Way."
Section 2. The Council requests that the Seattle Department of Transportation manufacture, install, and maintain honorary signs at prominent and appropriation locations, which shall reflect the "Rob Mattson Way" honorary designation.
