AN ORDINANCE authorizing Seattle Parks and Recreation to enter into an agreement with Seattle Preparatory School to replace the Montlake Playfield and continue an ongoing relationship in the Montlake community consistent with the Non-Government Agreement in Attachment 1 to this ordinance.

WHEREAS, Seattle Parks and Recreation (“SPR”), in partnership with Seattle Preparatory School (“Seattle Prep”), have worked closely for many years to provide a quality playfield at the City’s Montlake Playfield that enhances safety and playability for its community users and students to better serve community and the city at large; and

WHEREAS, the existing synthetic turf on Montlake Playfield, which Seattle Prep installed in 2011 and resulted in the substantial improvement in the experience of community users as well as for Seattle Prep students, is now nearing the end of its useful life and must be replaced; and

WHEREAS, the City desires to formalize its commitment to continue its productive working relationship with Seattle Prep to enhance the Montlake Playfield as authorized by the Non-Government Agreement; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. The Superintendent of Parks and Recreation or the Superintendent’s designee is authorized for and on behalf of The City of Seattle to negotiate an agreement with Seattle Preparatory School for support of the Montlake Playfield synthetic field replacement, substantially in the form set out as Attachment 1 to this ordinance, that is consistent with the terms and conditions contained in the Terms of Agreement between the parties, included as Attachment 2 to this ordinance.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force 30 days after its approval by the Mayor, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten days after presentation, it shall take effect as provided by Seattle Municipal Code Section 1.04.020.
